IDOL is responsible for enforcing the state’s Amusement Ride and Attractions Safety Act. Once amusement rides and attractions pass IDOL inspection, they receive a “permit-to-operate.”
- A carnival or amusement ride must be registered with the State of Illinois Department of Labor and comply with the Public Safety Act (430 ILCS 85/).
- A current permit sticker shall be affixed to the ride. (Inflatable shall have a permit affixed to the blower).
- All rides shall have a maintenance log. All rides shall undergo manufacturer-recommended testing.
- All rides shall have proper safety devices in place. (Ropes, cables, and guide wires shall not be pinched or frayed). (Inflatables shall be properly weighted down by stakes or sandbags in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
- Operators shall be aware of proper operation, maintenance, and safety procedures. They are to remain at the ride controls at all times, ensure that exits and entrance gates are secured, and regularly inspect and keep the entire area free of obstacles.
- Extension cords shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection, not be pinched, and the wire shall not be frayed. They shall not present a trip hazard or be available for damage.
- (UL listed) Required Documents: 1) Certification of current permit sticker issued by the State of Illinois. These stickers shall be made available at the time of inspection.
- All rides shall be on level ground and stable for operation.
