The McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to the 700 Block of North Mill St, in the City of McHenry, for a report of a building on fire. MTFPD and McHenry Police quickly arrived to find a 2-story apartment building, with 8 apartments, with smoke coming from the second floor and roof line. Emergency responders quickly checked all 8 apartments and evacuated any people located. A fire was quickly located and extinguished in a second floor apartment.

Four of the apartments were able to be reoccupied. Four apartments were not able to be reoccupied due to smoke and water damage. A damage estimate is not available at this time.

MTFPD worked with the American Red Cross to find housing for any displaced residents that needed it.

A MTFPD firefighter was transported to Northwestern Hospital – McHenry for a minor injury. He was treated and released.

MTFPD was assisted by Nunda Rural Fire Protection District and the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

The cause of the fire in not known. The Fire is being investigated by MTFPD fire investigations division and the City of McHenry Police Department.
