Chief Rudy Horist

As Fire Chief, I would like to welcome you to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD).

The MTFPD has a proud history, going back to 1939, of providing a high level of professional and compassionate service to the communities that we serve.

The MTFPD is governed by a five member Board of Trustees appointed by the McHenry County Board. The Board provides financial oversight and sets the overall policy for the fire district and meets the third Thursday of every month.

Our department is comprised of a combination of 158 professional part-time and full-time Firefighters, Paramedics, Officers, and administrative and support personnel. Through excellent training and strong dedication to serving our neighbors, the men and women of the MTFPD are ready to respond to meet the needs of the community.

The MTFPD is an “all hazards” agency providing fire suppression, Emergency Medical Services, specialized rescue services, public education, and fire prevention. We provide this through 5 fire stations located throughout the district that are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Each year we continue an upward trend in the number of emergency calls we respond to, including 6,874 in 2021. In addition to answering emergency calls our personnel are heavily involved in training, public education, and fire prevention activities.

I am proud to represent the MTFPD as its Fire Chief. We are committed to stand ready to assist you in your time of need day or night, with professionalism and compassion.

Sincerely,

Rudy Horist
Fire Chief
