At approximately 5pm on October 27, 2021, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to a report of a house on fire in the 4800 block of Broadway in unincorporated McHenry County.

On arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the back of the house. A fire was discovered on the rear deck, extending into the interior of the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the fire with a hoseline and opened up walls to ensure damage was contained to the exterior of the house.

Occupants were home at the time and were alerted to the fire by a passerby who could see the smoke from Broadway Street. Two children were treated for minor smoke inhalation by paramedics and released at the scene.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was assisted on the scene by the Spring Grove Fire District. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home remained habitable and the amount of damage was unknown at the time of this press release.
