At 7:30pm on December 3, 2021, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District was
called to the 2600 block of Thomas Court in unincorporated McHenry County for a report
of a house on fire.

On arrival, there was thick smoke and fire visible from the attic of a 1-story, single family
dwelling. The first arriving crews made an aggressive interior attack, but were forced to
retreat from the building because of the volume of fire in the attic space. Once the crews
were able to make progress on the fire from the exterior, they transitioned back inside to
complete extensive salvage and overhaul work.

There were no civilian casualties. One firefighter suffered a minor injury that did not
require medical attention. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Investigators from
McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Spring Grove and Woodstock Fire Rescue. It
is unknown if smoke detectors were present at the time of fire. The damage is estimated to
be over $100,000.00.

MABAS Box Alarm 5-1243 was requested for this fire which brought crews to the scene
from Wauconda, Nunda, Wonder Lake, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Round Lake and
Richmond. The remainder of the fire district was covered by Huntley, Woodstock, Spring
Grove and Lake Villa.
