On November 3, 2021 at approximately 11:15am, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 1300 block of Hillside Lane for a report of a stove on fire that was extending beyond the appliance.

On arrival of the 1st responding fire company, a fire was found on a stovetop in the kitchen. Crews confirmed that everyone had evacuated from the home and extinguished the fire with a dry chemical fire extinguisher. Minor heat damage was caused to some adjacent kitchen cabinets and a fan was needed to remove residual smoke from the house.

Smoke detectors were present and operational. The home was occupied at the time of the incident. There were no civilian or firefighter casualties. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District fire investigator.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was assisted by the Crystal Lake Fire Department, Nunda Rural Fire District, and the Wonder Lake Fire District, all of which were returned prior to their arrival on the scene.
