At approximately 7:42 a.m. today, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1800 block of Cashel Lane in the City of McHenry.
Crews arrived on scene in just over five minutes and found a two-story, single-family residence with heavy fire showing from the attached garage and extending into the interior of the home. The incident was upgraded to a Working Fire response to bring in additional personnel and equipment.
MTFPD crews rapidly attacked the fire using the deck gun mounted on the first-arriving engine while simultaneously stretching a hose line into the residence. Firefighters conducted a primary search of the entire home and confirmed that all occupants had self-evacuated prior to their arrival.
The fire had extended into the kitchen but was quickly extinguished. The fire was brought under control within five minutes of the crews' arrival and was fully extinguished within fifteen minutes.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
MTFPD received assistance from the Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda, Round Lake, Spring Grove, Wauconda, Wonder Lake, and Woodstock fire departments, either on scene or by providing station coverage.
The residence sustained heavy fire and smoke damage and is not currently habitable. A damage estimate is not available at this time.
MTFPD investigators, along with the McHenry Police Department, are investigating the cause of the fire.
